Lake Oswego is uniqually located in three neighboring counties in Oregon State. Primarily found in Clackamas County, Lake Oswego extends into neighboring Multnomah and Washington Counties, as well. Located 8 miles south of Portland, the town is surrounded by hills on the north and the south, the Willamette River to the east and I-5 to the west. Highway 43, a State highway, runs through the eastside of town. Oswego Lake is in the center of the City.

As of the 2017 US census estimate, the city had a total population of 39,196, a significant increase over the 2000 population of 35,278.

Lake Oswego is one of the most affluent suburbs of Portland. In 2018, the city had a median household income of $89,979, up from $71,597 in 2010.
