Hollywood, CaliforniaHollywood is a district within Los Angeles and does not have its own government. Instead it has an appointed official that serves as an honorary mayor for ceremonial reasons. Many movie stars have served in this capacity. Because of the fame of Hollywood and its obvious movie connections the name "Hollywood" has become synonymous with the film making industry and all the fan fair that goes with it. However, over the years much of the movie making business has moved to outer lying areas such as Burbank. Hollywood still maintains much of the movie making industry however in such venues as editing, effects, props and lighting companies. There is an approximate population of 300,000 people living in the district. Hollywood still boasts several historical theatres that are used to premier major movie releases, and is still a major draw for nightlife and tourism. Hollywood is located within the boundaries of Los Angeles, but other nearby popular cities include Anaheim, Beverly Hills, Burbank, North Hollywood, Pasadena, Santa Monica, Simi Valley and West Hollywood.
