Arkansas covers 53,182 square miles and has a population of 2,673,400 people. Arkansas' capital is Little
Rock, which has a population of 183,133. Other important cities are North Little Rock
(pop. 60,433), Pine Bluff (pop. 55,085), Jonesboro (pop.
55,515), Springdale
(pop. 45,798), Fort
Smith (pop. 80,268) and Fayetteville (pop.
58,047).
Arkansas was admitted to the Union on June 15th, 1836 as the 25th state. The state flower
is the "Apple Blossom" and it's nickname is "The Natural State".
Arkansas' economy is broken into two categories; agriculture and industry. Poultry and eggs, soybeans, sorghum, cattle, cotton, rice, hogs and milk provide for the agricultural side. While food processing, electric equipment, fabricated metal products, machinery, paper products, bromine and vanadium provide for the industrial side.
